The Wonders of Aromatherapy

The world of medicine is a continuously growing. There are a lot of research done every now in then about how to improve the health and wellness of every people.  Different alternative medicines are also being popularized to provide a more natural way of treating and preventing some diseases. It was René Maurice Gattefossé, a French chemist who first used this word.  Since then, the practice of aromatherapy has become so increasingly high not only in Europe where the term originated but all over the world.

In ancient times, some practices that are now associated with aromatherapy are being done for religious rituals. Take the use of fragrant incense for example; it has long been used by our ancestors for their religious activities and celebrations.

There is a wide variety of essential oils used in aromatherapy. The most common scents are rose, peppermint, cedar wood, ylang-ylang, chamomile, sandalwood and lemon. All of these scents provide soothing and relaxing scent to the body that would surely relieve any stressed body.

Aromatherapy is also used for skin care. There are a lot of products that have been developed like soap, lotion and shampoo that caters for to those people who are concerned with their skin. Some popular oils used to provide some skin care benefits are green tea which work as an anti-oxidant as well as lavender, tea tree and vanilla.

Some emotional and mental conditions can also be relieved through the use of aromatherapy. Some oils can act as anti-depressants and can uplift the mood of a person. Some are said to improve the memory and increase the level of concentration. There are also some aromatherapy oils that can work as sedative and reduce pain. These are just some more of the wonderful effects of aromatherapy for us.

The number of people practicing the different methods of aromatherapy are becoming more and more each day. This only goes to show that a lot of people are really benefiting from it.  The popularity of this fields of alternative medicine demands more and more products to be made available. This would provide us more options for treating medical conditions that we might be experiencing. There are also continued research studies that are done about the benefits of many plants in our environment. Aromatherapy is bringing back mans need for nature and would probably increase the awareness in caring for the environment.
